What are simethicone capsules, tablets or chewable tablets?
SIMETHICONE (Gas-X®, Phazyme®-125, Mylanta® Gas Relief and others) is an antiflatulent used to treat too much gas in the stomach and intestines. Swallowing too much air or eating foods that disagree often causes gas. Generic simethicone capsules, tablets and chewable tablets are available.
What should my health care professional know before I take simethicone?

How should I take this medicine?
Take simethicone capsules, tablets and chewable tablets by mouth. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. If you are prescribed chewable tablets, crush or chew them; do not swallow them whole. The capsules (also known as softgels) should be swallowed whole with water; do not chew them. Follow the directions on the label. If your health care provider has given you special instructions, follow these directions instead of what is on the label. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.
Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed. Do not administer adult simethicone preparations to infants.
What if I miss a dose?
If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
What drug(s) may interact with simethicone?
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What side effects may I notice from taking simethicone?
There are no reported side effects with simethicone.
What should I watch for while taking simethicone?
In general, simethicone is a very safe drug. Tell your health care prescriber if your symptoms get worse, or if you have severe pain, diarrhea, constipation, or blood in your stool.
Where can I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 °C (59 and 86 °F). Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
