Coenzyme Q-10 in Ubiquinone may interact with
ROSUVASTATIN in Crestor
"Some of the prescription cholesterol-lowering drugs that belong to a drug class known as HMG Co-A reductase inhibitors (statins) are known to decrease the amount of coenzyme Q-10 in the body. A few individuals who take statins may develop cramps, pain and/or weakness in their muscles. Very rarely, a more severe condition known as rhabdomyolysis, which may include muscle deterioration and kidney damage, has been associated with taking statins. Individuals who take a statin and who develop unusual muscle pain or weakness should contact a doctor right away. Although possible results of coenzyme Q-10 deficiency have not been identified, some very early research seems to show that decreased levels of coenzyme Q-10 and other natural substances may contribute to statin-related muscle conditions. Whether taking coenzyme Q-10 while a statin is also taken will prevent or lessen possible statin side effects is not yet known, however.
