Liotrix in Liotrix
may interact with DIGOXIN in Lanoxicaps
Although the cause of this potential interaction is not clearly understood, liotrix may alter the effects of digoxin. Based on information from several studies involving people who took digoxin while being treated for a thyroid disorder, blood levels of digoxin may be decreased in people with hyperthyroidism (also referred to as an "overactive thyroid"). Liotrix is generally used to correct hypothyroidism (also referred to as an "underactive thyroid") and return thyroid function to normal. Consequently, the progression from hypothyroidism to normal thyroid function may also decrease blood levels of digoxin. If you are using liotrix for the first time and have already been taking digoxin, it may be necessary to adjust the dose of digoxin when your thyroid function returns to normal. Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems.
This interaction is well-documented and is considered moderate in severity.
